Dr. Eric Osterholm and West Coast Equine,
owned and operated by Jenny Sherbo together
offer one of the finest
breeding facilities in Central California at the
Sliding J Ranch.
Mare owners can choose from well
groomed pastures, individual 14x36 partially covered outside
corrals, or 12x24 stalls in a fully enclosed mare barn
and 24-hour video
and monitored large foaling stalls to insure the comfort
and safety of mares and babies.
Our experienced staff, resident veterinarian and fully equipped lab allow us to ship cooled and frozen
semen from all our stallions all over the world.
Likewise, we are able to receive cooled and frozen semen
in a timely manner from any non-resident stallion. Timing is
so critical for both, and we have easy access to whatever
form of transportation is necessary to insure that semen is
delivered and received in the optimal time frame.
Other services available are embryo transfer, phantom
training for stallions, semen evaluation, semen freezing and
storage, lay-ups, year round boarding, care and boarding for
retirees, and training. Year round board and retirement
costs vary from $200.00 to $450.00 per month depending on
where the horses are kept and the kind of exercise they
need.
Our resident veterinarian, Dr. Eric Osterholm is
available 24 hours for all reproductive needs. Dr. Osterholm
has had twenty-four years of equine reproduction experience
working with many cutting, reining, and sport horse breeding
farms in Southern and Northern California. For the last ten
years he has been heavily involved in embryo transfer,
processing and handling frozen and chilled semen and
artificial insemination. He has been the attending
veterinarian for the International Sport Horse Registry for
the 100 Day Stallion Testing on three different occasions.
Dr. Osterholm’s primary lab is at Sliding J Ranch.
He can be reached at (209) 334-4247 for any questions about
reproduction management.
